What are the hours of Merced civil court?

As of February 28, 2021, the business hours at the Merced civil court (Old Main Courthouse) are:

Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM essential functions only
Friday 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Can I file paperwork at the Merced civil court?

Prior to Covid-19, paperwork could easily be filed at the Merced civil court. Due to the pandemic, availability changes. Call the Merced Superior Court (Old Courthouse) before driving down there to see if they are accepting your particular paperwork.

Can I file documents after hours at the Merced civil court?

The Merced civil court (Old Courthouse) has a court drop-box for receipt of court documents during non-operating hours. If you drop something in the court drop-box before 4:00 PM, it should be file stamped as received the same day. 

Anything deposited in the drop box is left at your own risk. The court assumes no responsibility for statutory deadlines.

Do I have to go through the metal detector at the Merced civil court?

Yes. At the Merced civil court, the Merced County Sheriff's Office “Courts Security Bureau” provide traditional Bailiff duties, judicial protection and general law enforcement.

Using state of the art security equipment, and dispatch capabilities, the Merced County Sheriff Security Attendants (SSA) operate weapon screening and metal detection devices at designated screening stations.

Before you head out to the Merced civil court, check yourself and everything you plan to bring into the court, including bags and clothing. Be sure to leave all questionable items behind - don't bring them into the Merced civil courthouse.

Where to park at Merced civil court?

Parking at the Merced civil court is located in the large lot between the new courthouse (2260 N. Street) and the railroad tracks. Cross 23rd. Street and come into the front doors of the courthouse on N Street. After clearing security, turn left and you'll find the elevators and the main stairwell just a few steps away.

Court buildings are located between 21st & 23rd street and M & N street.
