MANTECA ACCIDENT PERSONAL INJURY ATTORNEY
In 1861, Pioneer Joshua Cowell crossed the plains. In 1873, the railroad went through what is now Manteca.
At that time, Cowell (the “father of Manteca”) took up land in what became the heart of Manteca, the corner of what is now Yosemite and Main.
Railroad tracks were laid right through the center of Cowell's farm.
The train stop was just a boxcar called "Cowell Station".
But, south of Tracy, there was already a "Cowell Station", named after Wright Cowell (Joshua's brother).
So, the railroad and the farmers agreed to a new name - Monteca.
“Monteca” residents were dismayed when the railroad misprinted the first tickets as “Manteca” - - the Spanish for “lard”.
Although many were unhappy with this mistake, but it was never corrected.
In the 1970s, Manteca economy was largely agricultural. In the late 2000's, sky-high Bay Area housing prices drove people to search for more affordable options, like Manteca. Manteca is growing. In 2021, Manteca's population is 85,878.
Manteca hosts the “Not Forgotten” Memorial Day annual event, held on the Sunday before Memorial Day, to honor military veterans and fallen heroes.
It draws over 20,000 attendees.

This happened because the voters approved a constitutional amendment letting San Joaquin County judges merge their superior and municipal courts. Before then, superior court and municipal court were separate.
