Bicycle Accidents With Serious Personal Injuries

NBC Bay Area reports that on Friday, July 2, 2021, San Jose bicyclist Rickey Soto Fogle was “left for dead” on Almaden Expressway, per his friend Dave Nelson, one of more than 20 bicyclists who was riding with Fogle the same day.

Per the authorities, the accident occurred on southbound Almaden Expressway and Camden Avenue at around 6:30 AM.
   
Rickey's friends, including Dave's wife Ashley Nelson, are now asking the public for help in finding the person who hit Rickey. 

Jacquie Mardell, a co-owner of La Dolce Velo Bike Shop set up a GoFundMe page for Reyna Soto Fogle, Rickey's wife, to help with Rickey's medical expenses. Rickey's injuries include punctured lungs, and fractures of his neck, four ribs, arm, spine, pelvis and leg.

La Dolce Velo Bike Shop's Facebook page explains that Rickey worked at La Dolce Velo, and has more information about this crash, including pictures of Rickey's light blue Bianchi bicycle. They show its top tube, seat tube and seat stay are damaged. The saddle and seat post are completely gone.

Like Rickey, Dave Nelson's wife, Ashley Nelson, fell victim to a hit and run driver in 2009, who “left her, on the side of the road” with a catastrophic, traumatic brain injury. Ashley was “not expected to make it through the night or walk again.”

Thankfully, Ashley survived, and recently got on a bike again after 12 years, with her dear friend Rickey Soto Fogle there to share that important moment with her.

Rickey only wanted to ride his bicycle, and never imagined that someone would hit him on his bike and then run away.

People who hit bicylists and then flee the scene commit a crime and a civil wrong.
