Mr. Jesse Lemol Vong, 30, of San Jose, was arrested Sunday night, January 10, 2021 on suspected felony DUI, after a crash that killed his female passenger.
Vong drove his 2013 Volkswagen Golf at a very high speed, south on El Rancho Drive in San Jose near Santa Cruz. He crashed at around 9:45 p.m., per the CHP.
Vong drove off the road, struck a wooden utility pole and went up a dirt embankment where he crashed into a tree. His Golf then overturned onto, and blocked, both lanes of El Rancho Drive. El Rancho stayed closed for more than 5 hours, as the damaged tree was removed. PG&E also worked to fix the power lines that were downed by Vong's crash.
The CHP reports that Vong's right front passenger, a 28-year-old woman from San Jose, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Vong suffered major injuries and was transported by ambulance to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Vong was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, and then released to the hospital because of his injuries.
The victim's identity has not been released by the coroner's office and the crash is still under CHP investigation.
