Luis Esparza, 16 years old, of Oakley, California, and Kassandra Sepulveda, 18 years old, from Pittsburg, were walking after having attended a large nearby gathering, when Sharver was allegedly intoxicated behind the wheel of a 2002 Subaru Impreza and hit them with his car. The crash led to both Esparza and Sepulveda losing thier lives.
Authorities report that Colby Sharver, 18-years-old, of Knightsen, is arrested for a suspected DUI crash that took the lives of two teenaged pedestrians on the 8300 block of two-lane Byron Highway, an unincorporated road in Brentwood, in rural eastern Contra Costa County, on Saturday, September 4, 2021 around 11:00 PM.
Erica Vital of Oakley, California organized a “GoFundMe” page for Luis Esparza's funeral expenses. Erica describes a much-loved Luis Esparza, affectionately known as “Yuyu”, as a loving young man whose passion was horses.
On Sunday, September 5, 2021, Esparza's loved ones gathered at a memorial where the accident occurred. They played guitar and sang songs as they mourned Esparza. The memorial included flowers, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat on a large white cross.
Sepulveda's loved ones have also come forward and erected a memorial in her honor, where the accident occurred. Friends and family describe the shock and sorrow they feel at the sudden passing of Sepulveda, a young woman who was loved by so many people.
